Much of Science is conducted by research groups or labs. Therefore, science information is often produced out of these labs.

• These labs or groups provide an environment of collaboration; members of a lab share discoveries and resources.
• Lab environments can be virtual or physical.
• Labs can be organized around a project, an idea, a process, a specialized piece of equipment, etc.
• Labs can be the equivalent of an apprenticeship for early career scientists.
