A scientist must be able to:

1. Discover what is already known about a topic and what remains to be discovered.
   • Locate and access relevant background information.
   • Find out who is working (or has worked) in a particular field.

2. Share research so that others can understand what was done, how it was done, what the results were, and why they are important.
   • Decide where to share a new discovery so that interested scientists will find it and read about it.

3. Stay up-to-date on current research in his/her field using relevant information to conceive of new ideas and design new experiments.
   • Read newsletters, reports, articles, and RSS feeds.
   • Attend conferences and professional meetings.
